The oil mist lubrication device uses compressed air as power to atomize the oil, producing a smoke-like dry oil mist with a particle size of less than 2μm, which is then transported to the lubrication part through pipelines. Before the oil mist enters the lubrication point, it must pass through an element called a "condensation nozzle" to turn the oil mist into large, moist oil particles, which are then thrown onto the friction surface for lubrication. The compressed air and some tiny oil mist particles are discharged to the atmosphere through sealed gaps or specially designed exhaust holes.
Oil mist lubrication is suitable for the lubrication of enclosed gears, worm gears, chains, slide plates, guide rails and bearings.
At present, in metallurgical enterprises, oil mist lubrication devices are commonly used for large, high-speed, heavy-load rolling bearings (such as the backup roller bearings of eight-roller cold rolling mills).
Oil mist lubrication has many advantages compared with other lubrication methods:
1. Oil mist can disperse with compressed air to the friction parts that need lubrication. Good and uniform lubrication effect can be obtained;
2. Compressed air has small specific heat and high flow rate, so it can easily take away the heat generated by friction.
3. Significantly reduces lubricating oil consumption.
4. The thinner oil circulating lubrication system has a simple and lightweight structure, small footprint, low power consumption, convenient maintenance and management, easy automatic control, and low cost;
5. Because the oil mist has pressure, it can play a good sealing role and avoid external impurities, moisture, etc. from intruding into the friction pair.
However, oil mist lubrication also has some disadvantages. The following points should be paid attention to when selecting:
1. The discharged compressed air contains a small amount of suspended oil particles, which pollutes the environment and is harmful to the health of operators. Therefore, it is necessary to add an exhaust and mist exhaust device;
2. Not suitable for use on motor bearings. Because oil mist invading the motor windings will reduce the insulation performance and shorten the service life of the motor;
3. The transmission distance of oil mist should not be too long, generally within 30m is more reliable, and the length should not exceed 80m;
4. Equipped with a compressed air system.
Due to the above shortcomings of oil mist lubrication, its scope of use is limited. But its advantages are incomparable to other lubrication methods. Therefore, it will be applied in metallurgical equipment.
